Massive stone balustrades and a stone tower give this new home the feel of a medieval castle. The large vaulted interior spaces require a special roof insulation system. Lacking the insulating space of a traditional attic, the roof was super-insulated to separate extreme internal and external temperatures and prevent condensation. The standing seam copper roof required a variance from the local land use office. Previously, copper roofing had only been allowed as shingles.

A manufactured adaptation of this home’s copper singles are available from Summit Roofing affiliate Telluride Metalworks. “Mendota” shingles are available up to 13 inches wide and 24 inches to 10 feet long.
