1. What should I look for in a roofing company?

Ask what roofing products they have experience with. Do they manufacture any of the roofing materials themselves? Do they have experience and expertise with the entire roofing structure, and the systems and materials under the roof as well as on top of it? Ask for references – builders, architects, and homeowners they’ve done work for.

Summit Roofing has worked with just about every roofing material available and has extensive experience with fabrication and installation of custom materials and complex applications. Take a look at some of our favorite projects on this website. Contact us for more information.

2. What do you need from me when I’m ready to place an order?

The first thing we suggest is call us at 970-728-3686 or contact us by email through this website at sales@summitroofingtelluride.com, so we can discuss your project’s size, style, special requirements, and the roofing materials you have in mind. We’ll have some questions and probably a few suggestions that will help in putting together an accurate bid. Then, we’ll ask you to send us a full set of plans, including a roof plan, elevations, and in some instances, framing plans.

We will do a plan take off, determine accurate square footage, and put together a complete materials list and bid. If you decide to go ahead with the order, your roof panels or shingles with flashing details will be custom fabricated in our manufacturing facility. Keep in mind we also fabricate custom details such as chimney caps, snow retention devices, and other architectural details. Then, all roof components will be packaged and shipped to your desired location.

3. Can I install the shingles or roof panels myself?

We include installation guidelines with each order, but metalwork and roofing installation experience are a must to achieve the protection your home deserves. We suggest hiring an experienced roofing crew locally, or you can hire an expert Summit Roofing crew.

5. Metal roofs seem to be much more expensive than other types of roofs. Are they worth the added expense?

While your initial investment might be greater, metal roofs last longer and require less maintenance. For example, a copper roof lasts three to four times longer than other types of roofs. Any quality metal roof, properly installed and maintained, will protect a home for a long time and prove to be a wise investment.

6. My client has a specific roof color in mind. How can I be sure I get the color they want?

Almost every color imaginable is available in some roofing material. We’ll be happy to discuss all the options available so you’ll get the color you’re after. Most people are interested in pre-treated materials so their new roof is already weathered when it’s installed and does change color over its lifetime.

7. There are so many types of roof underlayment material. How do I know which one to specify?

The right combination of underlayment greatly contributes to a roof’s performance and lifespan. Whether a structure is designed to have a cold roof, warm roof, requires ventilation or a super-insulating layer determines the optimal choice of underlayment material. An experience roofing contractor, like Summit, can help you select the appropriate underlayment for every roofing project.

10. You talk about snow retention and snow management. Isn’t it always a good idea to get snow off a roof as quickly as possible?

Snow management – keeping snow on the roof rather than letting it slide off – is usually done to avoid damage to landscaping and for the safety of those walking by or using the structure. It’s usually most important over entrances, sidewalks, and porches. There is a wide variety of products available to manage rooftop snow from fences to clips. An experienced snow-country roofer can recommend the appropriate product and installation for your roof.

11. When and where is an ice melt system needed?

To decide if an ice melt system is needed, an experienced roofer will consider the location of the property, exposure of the various roof faces to the sun, density of tree cover, orientation of the building on the site, and the history of excessive build up of snow and ice on other structures in the area. Ice melt systems can be a wise investment on new construction, and can also solve ice problems on existing structures.
