Telluride Elementary welcomed its first students in 1896, and new students still arrive every fall. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Telluride Elementary is impressive for more than just being old. It also carries the distinction of having the world’s first electrified school kitchen. It’s been expanded several times, condemned, sold, and bought back by the school district. Its latest renovation in 2000 included a gymnasium, stage, three classrooms, and a new zinc roof.
